Compare the complete Meling ULT lineup

Begin with the capacity and cabinet format your laboratory needs. Then compare the refrigeration design, storage configuration and available installation space. These are also central purchasing considerations in professional ULT selection guidance.5

Capacity, cabinet format and refrigeration design
Model Capacity Format Refrigeration External W × D × H
DW-HL50 50 L Compact / undercounter One SECOP compressor 951 × 700 × 757 mm
DW-HL110V 110 L Compact / undercounter One inverter compressor 978 × 662 × 815 mm
DW-HL530 530 L Upright Two independent systems; inverter compressors 930 × 1,041 × 1,947 mm
DW-HL780 780 L Upright Two independent systems; inverter compressors 1,205 × 1,025 × 1,955 mm

External dimensions describe the cabinet, not the full installation envelope. Confirm ventilation clearances, door access and service access using the current instructions for the quoted model.1, 2, 3, 4

The DW-HL50 is the smallest option by nominal capacity and uses a digital display. The DW-HL110V offers 110 L and a 10-inch high-definition touch screen in a compact format. The DW-HL530 and DW-HL780 provide larger upright storage, three stainless steel shelves and 10-inch high-definition touch screens.1, 2, 3, 4

All four use direct cooling, manual defrost and vacuum insulation panels (VIP) combined with polyurethane (PU) insulation. Interior materials differ: DW-HL50 uses SUS430-grade stainless steel; DW-HL110V lists a galvanized interior with stainless steel optional; DW-HL530 and DW-HL780 list stainless steel interiors. Confirm the chosen configuration and plan routine care around the current product instructions.1, 2, 3, 4

What do two independent refrigeration systems provide?

The defining feature of the DW-HL530 and DW-HL780 is their two independent refrigeration systems, identified as systems A and B. Meling states that if one compressor fails, the other independent system can maintain the freezer at −80°C.3, 4

Conceptual explanation of the documented architecture, not an engineering schematic.

This design adds redundancy for the documented compressor-failure scenario. It does not supply electricity during a site power outage. Display/alarm batteries, backup power and emergency storage arrangements address different needs and should be considered separately.

For the single-compressor failure scenario, alarm scope and purchase questions, see Two Independent Refrigeration Systems in Meling ULT Freezers.

Compare usable storage by rack and box position

Nominal capacity helps you shortlist a cabinet, but your actual inventory depends on the rack, box, vial and cap combination. The supplied sheets list the following storage configurations.1, 2, 3, 4

Use the rack, box and vial configuration alongside nominal capacity when planning your inventory.

Manufacturer-listed storage configurations
Model Racks Boxes 2 mL cryovials
DW-HL50 2 36 3,600
DW-HL110V 6 72 7,200 standard; 9,000 with the shelf removed
DW-HL530 16 400 40,000
DW-HL780 24 600 60,000

For DW-HL110V, keep the configuration distinction: 7,200 cryovials is the standard listed arrangement; 9,000 applies with the shelf removed. Before ordering accessories, confirm compatibility with your actual boxes, vial dimensions and required access arrangement. Listed storage counts do not establish that every nominal 2 mL vial will fit.

Understand monitoring, logging and battery support

All four current product listings include Monitor for remote high/low temperature alarms and viewing of 24-hour temperature history. The built-in data logger has its own recording interval and retention specification, shown below.1, 2, 3, 4

The existing product image shows the touch screen and access panel. Logging and battery specifications are compared below.

Display, data logging and display/alarm battery
Model Display Logging and USB export Display/alarm battery
DW-HL50 Digital Every 10 minutes; 100,000 records At least 48 hours
DW-HL110V 10-inch HD touch screen Every 5 minutes; 10-year recording period 8 hours
DW-HL530 10-inch HD touch screen Every 5 minutes; 10-year recording period 8 hours
DW-HL780 10-inch HD touch screen Every 5 minutes; 10-year recording period 8 hours

These battery durations refer to the temperature display and alarms during a power failure. They are not refrigeration runtime or a validated sample holdover time. Confirm the monitoring connection, notification workflow and site requirements when discussing your quotation.

Read performance figures with their test conditions

Performance data are most useful when the setpoint, ambient temperature and door-opening procedure are stated. The following figures are reported in the supplied Meling documentation at a −80°C setpoint and 25°C ambient temperature. Recovery figures follow a 60-second door opening.

Reported performance at −80°C setpoint and 25°C ambient
Metric DW-HL50 DW-HL110V DW-HL530 DW-HL780
Energy use 7.936 kWh/24 h 4.48 kWh/24 h 7.3 kWh/24 h 8.5 kWh/24 h
Pull-down to −80°C 98 min 100 min 185 min 280 min
Recovery after a 60-second opening 14.5 min 17.5 min 35 min 52 min
Temperature uniformity 2.1°C ≤4°C 2.5°C 3.1°C
Temperature fluctuation 1.7°C ≤2°C 5.3°C 3.1°C

Typical manufacturer internal/prototype test data, as described by the supplied documentation. Actual performance depends on site conditions and use. The stated setpoint and ambient temperature do not, by themselves, establish that all other test details were identical. These figures are not independent comparative testing or guaranteed operating costs.1, 2, 3, 4

Cabinet uniformity describes differences across measurement locations at a given time. Stability describes the temperature range at an individual sensor over the test period. Check how each supplier defines fluctuation before comparing it with a stability result.6

Use energy figures alongside capacity and the storage configuration you need. A cabinet’s daily kWh figure alone does not determine which freezer is the better fit for your laboratory. Review the full specification rather than selecting on a single number.

Confirm cabinet fit and electrical configuration

Measure the intended location and the delivery route, including doors, lifts and turning space. Use the packaged dimensions when planning delivery, and confirm the manufacturer’s installation clearances before assuming a compact model will fit beneath a particular counter.

The supplied sheets list an operating ambient range of 16°C to 32°C for all four models. The DW-HL110V sheet lists both 110–120 V and 220–240 V configurations at 50/60 Hz; its model name does not identify one universal electrical version. Confirm the exact supply configuration for every quoted unit and have your facility assess the applicable electrical connection.1, 2, 3, 4
